Dom Zurzolo Band + Zydecats
Dom Zurzolo Band | 7.30pm
Dom Zurzolo is a long-time blues club member and established local musician who brings an original style of impressive progressive guitar and smooth laid-back vocals to the stage. Be prepared to be blown away by the sensational musicianship from this local singer-songwriter.
Accompanying Dom will be his son Anthony, an up-and-coming drummer, who has been performing from a young age in the Kalamunda Youth Swing Band and Mazenod Concert Band. Anthony was only 17 years old when he recorded drums on Dom’s 2020 release ‘Accensa’, debuting his tight grooves and intricate beat patterns. On the bass is Dom’s daughter Veronica, a singer-songwriter-guitarist for local act Dolce Blue, who performed from a young age in the Kalamunda Youth Swing band and studied at WAAPA. The night will also feature a very special guest, Ingrid Zurzolo strumming on the guitar and singing backup vocals.
Zydecats | 8.45pm
1992 – Escaping from the smoking wreck of the widely and critically acclaimed Dude Ranch, Lucky Oceans (world renowned steel guitarist, and by now button accordionist) approached Bill Rogers (vocals, sax and harmonica) about starting a band to play some Zydeco. With ex-Dude Ranch guitarist/vocalist & Rock and Roll encyclopedia Kent Hughes involved, this trio began to rehearse while they searched for both repertoire and rhythm section. From the start, the idea was to combine Zydeco with ‘Cat’ music – swing, jump blues and rockabilly, plus any other style that suited the line-up, including rock and roll, country blues, soul, R&B, Cajun and New Orleans R&B.
