Empire Blues + Lloyd Spiegel
Empire Blues | 7.30pm
Dynamic blues power outfit Empire Blues’ primary influences come from the British Blues invasion of the 1960s. Initially, the band took its material from this period, but over time it has moved on to performing more original material in the belief that for blues music to evolve, you can’t keep just repeating the past, so in addition to their existing material the band will be performing a selection of new songs compiled over the last couple of months.
The band features prominent Western Australian blues musicians Andrew McIlroy (guitar/vocal), Alan Dawson (bass guitar/vocal) and Frank Shinall (drums).
Lloyd Spiegel | 8.45pm
Watching Australian bluesman Lloyd Spiegel perform is a powerful experience. He’s a big man with a huge voice and even bigger presence – and his command of the acoustic guitar is not something you see every day.
Lloyd has toured extensively throughout Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan, where he has performed at major festivals and iconic Juke Joints as well as supporting the likes of Ray Charles, Bob Dylan and Etta James on tour. His contributions to music have earned him myriad accolades, such as 2018 Album of the year Blues and Roots Radio Worldwide awards, 14 Australian Blues Awards, and being named as one of Australian Guitar Magazine’s Top 50 Australian guitarists of all time.
