The Mikey Long Trio + Dilip & the Davs

The Mikey Long Trio | 7.30pm

The Mikey Long Trio are an explosive blues outfit hailing from Perth, WA. Mikey’s soulful vocals and searing guitar work is backed up by a driving rhythm section comprising of Dylan King on Bass and Almin Fulurija on Drums. The trio have earned a reputation for their explosive, high-energy lives shows at various venues and festivals including Bridgetown Blues, Duke of George, Clancy’s Pub and The Indian Ocean Brewery “Big Easy” Festival. Performing both originals and select covers, The Mikey Long Trio are not to be missed.

Dilip & the Davs | 8.45pm

If you were to bottle the rhythms and essence of Freo, it would have a Dilip n the Davs label on it.  The band have been gigging and releasing albums consistently over the last 15 years and are well known for their engaging, energetic live shows and original music across several genres.
Reggae flavoured, blues infused, jazz tinged and country sprinkled sounds is what is usually on offer at their gigs.  Drawing on their extensive repertoire that comes from 8 albums and a half dozen singles, there is always a pleasing variety of musical styles.
Quite a few musicians have played in the band over the years; each bringing their own strengths and interests.  At last count, over 50 musicians have been through the lineup at various stages.  The band had a reputation for being a training ground for young, talented emerging musicians.  In three of the band iterations there have been father and son combinations
The current band iteration formed just after Covid passed and that sense of relief and desire for healing seems to have influenced  the band’s music.  Award winning songwriter Dilip Parekh is the main singer and writer of the songs.  Co founder of the band in 2005,  Andrew Pring on harp, is one of the three soloists.  The others are Douglas Jones on sax and NZ guitarist Jorb Uangakore who has eschewed his beloved metal to try something different.  On drums Warren Harvey brings his own distinctive style influenced by West African  music.  Alan Dawson , well known musician in at least 7 bands at last count, is the group’s bass man and also has been  producing the most recent recordings.  Regular special guest harmonica player Jean Guy Lemire from Freo will also be joining the band for the night.
The Perth Blues Club show will also be the official launch of the latest single ‘Get To You’ which is a rollicking country blues track about breaking out of prison in Freo  and driving real fast to be with a lover in the Goldfields.  Yes indeed, these things happen to us all.
The DAVs are most excited about their show at the Club and eager to share the new music with everyone.  For those who enjoy multi-genre, irresistibly joyous music  composed right here in the West, this is a Tuesday night you should not miss.
