Alan McCowat Band | 8.15pm (two sets)

I have been very fortunate to have always had top shelf musicians perform with me in the band and this new line up keeps that tradition flowing. I like to change members from time to time to refresh the repertoire and keep the musicians sitting on the edge to retain the sense of excitement that occurs when we explore the set list and rely on their inventiveness and expertise to shine on the gig. We welcome two new members to the band this evening and look forward to another great night of Blues – Alan Mc)
Al Pithers is a world class keyboard/vocalist, his skills have taken him from residences in some of Australia’s top tourist destinations, to return engagements throughout Europe. Al was a member of the sensational late 70s, early 80s jazz fusion band Manteca and featured on their self titled album and in the ABC 10 part tv series ”Manteca in Concert”. Currently Al is performing around Perth with The Three Kings Blues Revue, Straight Ahead Big Band, the Al Pithers ‘funky-Latin-jazz-Blues’ quartet and solo gigs at various venues.
Joe Southwell is a much sought after and versatile bassist arising from the western coast of Australia, where he cut his teeth playing in church and school bands before steadily carving a niche for himself shaping low-end frequencies on the Perth music scene. Currently back home after a stint abroad living and working in London, Joe performs regularly on the local circuit in numerous genres – including pop, rock, jazz and R&B, amongst others. His commitment to the groove is unwavering!
Paula Graham returns to the band and brings back her beautiful, big, bluesy voice and a wonderful repertoire of songs. A seasoned performer Paula has performed with Tina Arena on morning television and worked as a support act with Paul Kelly, Daryl Braithwaite and the Black Sorrows . Paula is also a featured vocalist on albums by Michael Pigneguy and funk jazz outfit Thrust. Live performances with local bands keep Paula busy whilst teaching piano and vocals in her home studio and leading choirs extensively at many private Perth schools.
Paul Reynolds, a well known and highly respected bass player and vocalist, has had a long and successful career in music but on this occasion Paul will be featured on guitar and vocals. Paul was a member of ‘Down Under’ with the late John Meyer, played bass and guitar in many rock bands, was several times guest rock vocalist with the WA Symphony Orchestra, a session singer including backing vocals on one of Hank Marvin’s albums, taught music at WAAPA, ACPA and Abmusic, ran his own studio while writing and recording jingles and original music. In his spare time……
Sam Pettit, our powerhouse drummer has been with us from the very first gig back in 2015. Sam has played his drums with some of Perth’s top commercial/Corporate bands since he moved here from NSW in 2001. (Darren Reid & the Soul City Groove, Flash Nat, Off the record, Chris Gibbs band etc.) These days Sam spends time working in his ‘Fatback Productions’ recording studio producing new original music and performing locally.
Alan McCowat has performed at the club many times with this band, Bloozology and more recently with ‘Whyalla’, he has also been called in to feature in the lead guitar role with many of the popular PBC acts. Having worked with many international and Australian acts throughout his career Alan still feels more at home playing the blues with this band of fine musicians.
