Stumptown + Love Bites
Stumptown | 7.30pm
It has been a while but the jump blues boys from the deep south are back in town. This time with a mountain of gigs and two albums under their belt. Martin Boyd pulls the big wires, Rod McCosker, pounds the skins, (he’s the youngster of the bunch), Ron Kinson, an extraordinary guitar player, with delightful silky guitar skills and front man, ‘Hound Dog’ Dave Bassett provides the gravel edged vocals and a screaming blues harp. Their latest album, You Got To Pay, features two tracks with harmonica protégé Elwood Birgden and Elwood will be joining the boys on stage for the night. “If you ain’t stomping your feet and shaking your booty by the end of the first song, then someone needs to check your pulse.”
Love Bites | 8.45pm
Stones flavoured R&B with a twist of raunch’n’roll, a dash of dust bowl blues and a rambunctious mix of whatever that other ingredient is. Having long since forgotten their vague promise to deliver that fourth chord, Love Bites remain true to their mission of delivering rootsy rockers and hip shaking grooves that will have you up on your feet and on the dance floor in no time at all. Come on down and help Phil celebrate his 64th in proper Blues Club style.
